Non Design Issues in Design

I am interested in investigating the different non-design issues which can affect the performance of a product.For example low back pain.There is a strong correlation between low back pain and psychological factors which might not be solved through an ergonomically designed chair.


 
 

My area of interest

My area of interest are varied.I am investigating ergonomic issues (especially risk factors) in agricultural and craft sector in India. The idea is to develop models for injury prediction.Along with this I am also focussing on development of hand tools, work station and work process as well.
In the area of visual ergonomics I am investigating the area of symbol and icon comprehension level of people in different parts of the country.Research is currently in progress in this area.

User study some problems in India

When it comes to testing a product on actual users, there are loads of problems the investigator has to face in an Indian scenario. Some of these problems are unique in an Indian scenario, whereas many of them are common all over the globe.A recent publication in this regards might be helpful to ergonomists working in real life scenario.

Ergonomics in India

Sigificant work is being done in India in the field of ergonomics and allied field.Starting from the agricultural, craft and other unorganized sectors, Indian ergonomists are making significant controbution to this field. In the Industrial sector and especially software industry ergonomics is being applied at its maximum under the label "usability engineering".
The institutions where ergonomics is being taught and practised are National Institute of Design, Indian Institute of Technology, Calcutta University just to name aa few.Its boom time for ergonomics in India.

Ergonomics also called the science, technology and art of man at work finds an important place in the world today. from pin to plane and from tomb to womb ergonomics can be applied everwhere. Where ever there is human there is ergonomics or human factors as it is also called. In India this applied and multidisciplinary subject is gradually picking up. Whether it is the hand tool of the craftsmen or a complicated medical equipment there is a bit of ergonomics everywhere.
